Chapter 34
14 When they brought out the silver that had been brought to the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the Torah of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 15 Hilkiah responded and said to Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the book of the Torah in the house of the LORD." And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan. 16 And Shaphan brought the book to the king, and he returned and stood before the king. He said, "All that he gave into the hand of your servants, they are doing." 17 And they melted down the silver found in the house of the LORD and gave it into the hand of the overseers and into the hand of the doers of the service. 18 Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, "A book Hilkiah the priest has given me." And Shaphan read it before the king. 19 When the king heard the words of the Torah, he tore his garments. 20 The king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, servant of the king, saying: 21 Go, seek the LORD on my behalf and on behalf of the remnant in Israel and in Judah concerning the words of the book that was found, for great is the wrath of the LORD that has been poured out on us because our fathers did not keep the word of the LORD to do according to all that is written on this book. 22 Hilkiah and the one the king sent went to Huldah the prophetess, wife of Shallum son of Tikvah son of Harhas, keeper of the garments. She was sitting in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter, and they spoke to her thus. 23 She said to them, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: Say to the man who sent you to me." 24 Thus says the LORD: Behold, I am bringing evil on this place and on its inhabitants, all the oaths written in the book that they read before the king of Judah. 25 Because they abandoned me and burned incense to other gods in order to provoke me by all the deeds of their hands, my wrath has been poured out in this place, and it will not be quenched. 26 And to the king of Judah, who sent you to seek the LORD: Thus you shall say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: As for the words that you have heard, 27 Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before me and tore your garments and wept before me, I have also heard, declares the LORD. 28 Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your burial sites in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil that I am bringing upon this place and upon its inhabitants, and they will return the word to the king. 29 The king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 30 The king went up to the house of the LORD with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites and all the people from great to small, and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD. 31 And the king stood on his platform and cut the covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul, to do the words of the covenant, the ones written on this book. 32 And he caused all those found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers. 33 And Josiah removed the abominations from all the lands belonging to the sons of Israel, and he caused all those found in Israel to serve the LORD their God. All his days they did not turn from following the LORD God of their fathers.
